We are open from 9am to 3pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday, term time. Excluding bank holidays and three staff training days a year.
Our nature-inspired eco-nursery, on the grounds of Egloskerry School, within the rural village of Egloskerry, is managed and led by an Early Years Teacher and a primary school teacher. Both of whom are Level 3 Forest School leaders.
Our most recent Ofsted inspection was on 29 November 2017. We are very proud of the 'Good' outcome.
Egloskerry Nursery aims to deliver an early years care and education provision that encompasses Forest School and the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. Enhanced by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which looks to educate the heart and hands as well as the head.
Our unique eco-nursery and natural outdoor approach to learning fosters an appreciation, respect and care for nature, which will then be deeply embedded in our lives. This nature-inspired unhurried approach allows children to develop a deep love of learning and a care for the environment, which will continue throughout their lives.
We follow nature’s rhythms, which inspires a child led approach to play and development. Making meaningful decisions, throughout each phase of your child’s unique journey.
Our staff are reflective researchers, striving to gain a deep understanding of individual children. Through a loving, nurturing and language rich environment, children feel safe to play and develop important life skills. Such as persistence, resilience, curiosity, creativity and resourcefulness. Children in turn become empowered, exploratory learners with a very high emotional intelligence.
Sessions are child led, by enabling environments to suit individual leaning needs. By giving children the freedom to learn by following their own interests. .
The team are highly qualified, giving us the knowledge to facilitate individual lines of enquiry to support and extend play and learning, providing an approach that develops a community where collaborative learning takes place daily.

For language and communications we wille providing opportunities the children to develop confidence with their speaking and listening skills at circle time. We will also be focusing on sounds within our environment, with a focus on describing outdoor sounds.
For maths skills, the children will be drawing around themselves, starting a new height chart and learning about self portraits to support the development of their pencil control skills through child initiated activities.
The children will also be given many opportunities to express themselves creatively through art and craft, sensory experiences , music and physical activities outdoors. As ever we will be extending the children’s interests thought meaningful interactions, within planning and spontaneous experiences.
Forest School will be on Friday mornings within our new Forest School space!! -

OUR AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
We provide a happy, relaxed and safe environment for children of any culture and/or ability to learn through play and structured activities.
Children are encouraged by example and teaching to care for and respect not only themselves, but also others and their environment.
We aim to increase their personal confidence and self-esteem. We actively promote positive behaviour.
We aim to develop the concentration, communication and listening skills of the children, to broaden their range of experiences and to deepen their levels of understanding.
We aim to develop their physical abilities.
We actively promote creativity and imaginative play.
We actively promote healthy eating and healthy lifestyle.
We actively promote independence in the setting including personal care and hygiene.
We actively promote equality of opportunity for everyone.
The Nursery aims to provide a service to the local community.
We encourage the children to feel part of their community by having visitors, and by occasionally taking part in visits to local facilities and places of interest in the area.
We maintain a working partnership with parents, as we recognise this as being of major value and importance in a child’s education.
We encourage each individual child to progress through the Development Matters of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, as set out by the DfES.
To meet the requirements of these we plan extensively following the children’s interests and progression.
We record each child’s progress through observation which enables us to provide more closely for the needs each child.
We support every child in their development, allowing them to progress at their own rate whilst offering plenty of encouragement and praise.
Activities are child led so sometimes plans change and staff are flexible.
Confidentiality is maintained with the records we keep and child assessments are available for parents to read on request.
We actively promote a smooth transition into school by offering joint activities and experiences each term.
Our well qualified, committed and experienced team work hard to create a caring and learning environment in the nursery. We know that every child develops differently and at different times. Every child has a key person who understands how their individual needs and interests. This helps us to ensure that every child feels involved, stimulated and happy in our care.
We follow rigorous staff recruitment, selection and supervision procedures to ensure that anyone joining our team undertake relevant security checks including Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure, references and qualification checks. Parents are reassured knowing that child protection and safeguarding underpins every aspect of our practice and will continue to remain a priority for us.
Your child's 'key person'
Every child who joins the nursery receives support from an experienced member of the team. They are responsible for your child’s individual needs and known as the ‘key person’. The key person is your main point of contact however all nursery staff are happy to feedback on your child’s developmental progress on a daily basis or discuss any concerns with you. They will also keep records of your child’s progress and achievement, which are always available for you to see and contribute towards.
Your child’s key person will make time to find out from you about your child’s interests, likes, dislikes and special requirements. Please share any important or useful information when you register your child and throughout their time with us. This helps us to give your child the most appropriate care and learning to suit their developmental, emotional and physical needs. You can access and contribute your views to your child's progress and achievements in their records.

Our daughter has learnt so many new skills, grown in confidence, loves the staff, the environment and looks forward to going every day! Both myself and my family are very impressed with her progress and how she is developing and we have nothing but praise to all the staff for all their hard work and dedication".
"My child has loved her time at Egloskerry Nursery, coming from a different nursery and asking to attend Egloskerry full time. The staff are friendly and the building and facilities are great.Lots of activities done on day to day basis which my child has really enjoyed, for example, forest school and baking. All in all, a great nursery and would recommend."
