Ofsted

We have recently had our Ofsted inspection and been awarded 'Good' by Ofsted on December 19th 2018. Below are the highlights of why Ofsted made this decision.

  • The manager and staff form an effective team and work together with enthusiasm. They demonstrate a strong commitment to continuously improving the quality of children's learning experiences. Self-evaluation is ongoing and is successfully used to identify where the provision can be enhanced.
  • Staff know children well. They talk confidently about where children are in their learning and development and what they need to do to support their continuing progress. As a result, children make good progress.
  • Staff are caring and kind and form good relationships with children. Children are happy, settled and confident to explore the activities and environment. Children demonstrate a real sense of belonging.
  •  Staff build trusting relationships with parents and keep them fully informed about their children's development. They use a range of imaginative strategies to encourage parents to support their children's learning at home.
  • Staff understand the importance of promoting children's good health; for example, by providing healthy, nutritious snacks and plenty of opportunities for play outdoors.

About us

Laindon Nursery offers a stimulating approach to early years development and learning for very young children.

Within a safe, friendly and fun environment, children are supported by qualified, caring staff in developing a wide range of skills and interests.

The children enjoy learning through play experiences in bright indoor and outdoor play areas with exciting outings planned regularly.

We are managed by the Alliance, one of the largest providers of childcare in England with over 50 years experience delivering childcare and practical, professional support to early years practitioners.

Our nursery plans its activities in accordance with the EYFS with a strong focus on exploratory, imaginative play and healthy eating.

We recognise and understand the huge benefits that free flow play has on the positive development of very young children. Every child in our care is supported by a key person who understands their individual needs and offers special care and support to them.

Rigorous health & safety and safeguarding policies and procedures are in place to ensure that every child is protected and feels safe and happy with us.

Little Learners Room - 6 weeks to 3 years

The Little Learners room is a bright and welcoming environment with lots of open space for our babies to explore! Our room takes children from 0-3 years and can hold up to twelve children each day. The ratio for 2-3 year olds is one staff member to four children and for 0-2 year olds one staff to three children.

In theLittle Learners Room we aim to keep your child’s routine the same as it is at home by adhering to your child’s sleeping and feeding patterns. However, we do find as the children get older they naturally settle into the nursery’s routine.

We have a large carpeted area where we set out a wide range of different toys and activities each day. These include musical instruments, treasure baskets, shaker bottles, small world toys, cars and car runs, mirrors, shape sorters and many more. We set these out to suit all age ranges within the room each day. We have all our toys at children’s level so that they can access what they would like to play with. We have a laminated floor area which is where the children eat thier snacks and thier meals during the day. This is also where we set up creative and messy play activites such as gloop, jelly, play dough and much more.

Little Explorers Room - 2 years to 5 years

The Little Explorers room can take up to 38 children aged between 2-5 years. The ratio for 2-3 year olds is one staff member to four children and for 3-5 year olds one staff to eight children.

The Little Explorers room is always busy with lots of different activities both indoors and out and the children are able to move freely in and out of the garden throughout the day.

We have a quiet corner with lots of books and puppets, a well equipped creative area which is available for the children to access what they would like to use freely, a maths area with puzzles, shapes, scales etc, a literacy area for mark making and we have an area inside and out for physical activity such as sticky kids or bikes and trikes.

We are very lucky to have such a lovely garden. The children can choose from lots of different activities outside such as water play, sand tray, bikes and trikes, floor puzzles,  balls and much more!

We also have an undercover area which allows us to go out in all weathers.

Christmas Nativity 2018

The Little Explores and Little Learners joined together to put on two productions of the first Christmas Nativity and did some lovely singing for all their family members to come along and see. It was great fun having a sing a long and a lovely way to end the year.

FAQs

Do you offer funded entitlement for 2 year olds?

We do offer two year funding. Children from households receiving certain benefits might be entitled to funded childcare for 15 hours a week, the term after their 2nd birthday, subject to availability.  Please talk to a team member for more details.

Do you offer funded entitlement for 3-4 year olds?

We do offer three year old funding.  Children are eligible for the funding in the term following their third birthday.  The funding is available for 15 hours per week (term time)

Do you offer the additional 15 hours funded entitlement for 3-4 year olds?

We do offer the 30 hour funding.

All three and four-year-olds are entitled to 570 hours of government-funded childcare per year; from September 2017, the Childcare Act 2016 increases this entitlement for working parents by an additional 570 hours.

This means many families will be able to claim 1140 hours of free childcare per year, for each of their three or four-year-olds. The entitlement at Laindon Nursery will be used across 50 weeks of the year - this works out to 22.8 hours per week.

At Laindon Nursery the 30hr funding is offered Monday to Friday 1.00pm-5.30pm 50 weeks a year. Additional hours can be booked on top of these hours.

What sessions do you offer?

We are open Monday to Friday 8.00am-6.00pm. We offer half or full day sessions.

AM session 8.00am-1.00pm

PM session 1.00pm-6.00pm

Full day 8.00am-6.00pm

Do you have spaces available now?

Yes, we have childcare places available now so please contact us to arrange a visit or for further information.

Do you provide hot meals?

Yes, we have an onsite kitchen and personal cook. We offer a healthy and varied menu, and all foods are prepared fresh daily.

Are you able to accommodate children with different dietary requirements?

Yes, all staff are trained in allergy awareness, and basic food preparation and hygiene. Our Setting Cook caters for a variety of needs such as dairy, soya and gluten allergies/intolerances. A meal as close as what the other children is eating will be provided, in individual bowls to prevent cross contamination.

How many staff will be looking after my child?

We have a total of nine room-based staff. Two of them work in our 0-3 year’s room and six of them in our 2-5 years room. Our Deputy Manager also spends time within the room.

What qualifications do your staff have?

Both our Manager and Deputy have Level 3 qualifications in Childcare, as well as a Level 3 in Leadership and Management. From our nine room-based staff, seven are Level 3 qualified in Childcare; one has a level 2 in childcare and is currently enrolled on this training. Our newest member of staff is currently unqualified, but will shortly be undertaking her Level 2 in Childcare.

What should my child bring to nursery?

A named bag with a change or two of clothing and nappies/wipes if appropriate.  Outdoor wear suitable for the weather conditions.  This should include coat, hat, gloves in the winter and sunhat in the summer (please apply sun lotion before the session).  Welly boots all year round for outdoor play.  Please name everything.

How can I help my child to settle in?

All children are different, some settle in straight away, others may take a little more time and encouragement.  We will work with you to help your child to settle in in a way that you are comfortable with.  You are welcome to stay with your child as long as you like during this process.  It can be helpful to visit us with your child before they start to familiarise them and to get to know their key person and other staff.

How will I know how well my child is doing?

Every child has a learning journey book where their progress within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is charted.  You are welcome to look through your child’s book at any time and talk to your child’s key person.  We also hold parent/carer meetings twice a year, where you can have a sit down meeting with your child’s key person.

How can I support my child's learning at home?

Staff are always happy to discuss ideas with you. We provide a parent/carers library with books and for you to borrow and share with your child at home. We also have hand home activity packs, which have instructions and resources, which you can borrow at any time.

What is the settings current Ofsted rating?

We had our last Ofsted inspection here at Laindon Nursery in December 2018. We was awarded a Good rating.

Parent comments

"The staff are well trained to respond to each child's individual need.  I am impressed with the nutritious meals and the daily activities which primarily contributes to my son's development. I am eternally grateful for the support my son receives at the nursery."

“Our two daughters have been really happy at Laindon Nursery. Standard of care is excellent and the staff are loving, patient and thoughtful."

"The 'baby room' is very welcoming. Both our girls were teary and apprehensive initially (18 months apart) but this soon passed. The love and attention they clearly received ensured they were excited to be going in the mornings. Key workers were same for both girls - Leslie deserves special mention as she is amazing. Updates were daily and special moments always shared with us as parents.

"Transition to the 'big room' was managed very well. Both girls enjoyed plenty of taster sessions. Emphasis is always on learning through fun and they settled really quickly.

"As parents we are both grateful for Laindon nursery. A great setting all round. Would definitely recommend.”
