Vocational qualifications for the children’s workforce
Early Years settings need confident and knowledgeable staff members who have been trained to provide the very highest quality care and education. The EYFS regulations require at least 50% of staff to hold a level 2 and 3 qualification. In the future there are likely to be requirements for all staff to hold a minimum level 3 qualification.
Level 2 and 3 qualifications can help staff to progress to an Early Years Foundation Degree and Early Years Professional Status. Most of all, a confident and knowledgeable staff provide the highest quality care and education for young children.
From August 2010 the Alliance will be providing the new qualifications created for the children and young people’s workforce. The new qualifications are due to replace the Cache Level 3 Diploma in Pre‑school Practice, the Cache Level 2 Certificate in Pre‑school Practice, the Cache Level 1 Award in Getting Started in a Pre‑school Setting and NVQ 2, NVQ 3 and NVQ 4, from January 2011, but from 1st August – 31st December 2010 both old and new style qualifications will be available for study. Decisions on the type of qualification available (existing or new style) will be made locally. Information about planned course enrolment arrangements can be found on our prospectus pages.
It is very important to emphasize immediately that people who are already qualified with the qualifications listed above will not need to requalify. You can check whether your qualification meets the regulatory requirements by searching the Children’s Workforce Development Council’s web‑based tool https://secure.cwdcouncil.org.uk/eypqd/qualification‑search
From August you will be able to enrol for the new Cache Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce. The Alliance will be providing the Early Learning and Childcare pathway for this qualification. Also available will be the Cache Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce.
