Pre-school Learning Alliance launches exciting new publication for pre-school practitioners

The Pre-school Learning Alliance has launched an exciting new publication entitled Planning a Pre-school Curriculum — Making it work for you — A Practitioners' Guide to Planning for the Foundation Stage Curriculum. This publication will help in understanding how to plan an exciting and effective curriculum within a pre-school setting and will provide an invaluable resource for pre-school practitioners and tutors.

Stephanie Mathivet, Curriculum and Standards Manager at the Pre-school Learning Alliance said:

"This new publication will be an invaluable guide for everyone from students to tutors alike. There is a focus on ‘learning through play' and child/adult interaction, which embodies the philosophy of the Pre-school Learning Alliance."

"The Charity's commitment to providing good quality childcare is evident throughout this publication, which holds the key to planning a curriculum for pre-schools."

"Good planning is important for fostering enriched learning opportunities for the child."

One of the key components of Planning a Pre-school Curriculum — Making it work for you, is providing the pre-school practitioner with a way to involve parents in the various planning stages of their children's early education. This parental involvement is a key theme of the Charity's current Campaign changing lives changing life.

The Charity believes that all parents should be encouraged to have the right to be full partners in early education and childcare. The Pre-school Learning Alliance's two-year campaign aims to address the current shortage of childcare places in all parts of the country. A core aspect of the Campaign is the Charter for Parents and the Early Years, which is seeking to bring about practical changes in the way nursery education and childcare are delivered, to better meet the needs of young children and their families.

The Charter is calling for continuity of care for children, full consultation of parents, formulation of parent boards for all early years settings and drop-in and advice services for parents, together with family and lifelong learning opportunities.
