Alliance publishes guidance on developing policies for early years settings to support best practice

The Pre-school Learning Alliance has produced a guide to developing polices for all early years groups registered with Ofsted providing sessional or full daycare. Policies for Early Years Settings, produced in consultation with Ofsted, contains a full range of policies to help settings provide good quality provision. Alongside the useful reference book is a free CD-rom containing electronic copies of the policies and documents to edit and print, making them easy for settings to adapt and use.

Clear policies on admissions, settling in, behaviour management, child protection, food and drink, special educational needs, disability, equality and diversity, parental involvement, non-collection of children, confidentiality and complaints procedures are included in the publication. There are also policies for managing settings including health and safety, equipment and resources, staffing and employment and student placement. The pack also features a template application to join, registration forms and a template prospectus, ensuring that new parents joining settings are informed from the start.

Steve Alexander, Chief Executive of the Pre-school Learning Alliance said:

"All settings have a responsibility to provide high-quality services for parents and families. Clear policies help to ensure that parents are aware of how settings are run, how their children will be cared for and their own responsibilities when using the service. This publication is an important tool for settings to use to ensure best practice and the highest possible standards."

The publication covers all policies needed for settings to meet Standard 14 of the National Standards of Day Care dealing with documentation and is part of the charity's programme to support settings with information and best practice examples.

Policies for Early Years Settings is available to order exclusively from the Pre-school Learning Alliance.
