NEWS RELEASE

Alliance supports biggest ever child protection training

The Pre-school Learning Alliance is supporting the NSPCC in its launch of the largest ever child protection training exercise. Early years settings across the country will receive complementary copies of EduCare, a child protection awareness distance learning programme.

Early years settings are a vital link in the child protection chain as they have frequent contact with children and families. EduCare will help early years professionals to recognise the possible signs of abuse and ensure they know how to act if they have concerns about a child. The programme will also help staff act appropriately if a member of the public approaches them with child protection concerns.

For many professionals and support staff, the training will be a refresher and a prompt to check their internal child protection procedures. EduCare has four short learning modules and is tailored for specific sectors, such as education, health or community workers. Alliance members will receive the first two modules free of charge, with additional modules available at a discount.

Steve Alexander, Chief Executive at the Pre-school Leaning Alliance, said:

"This training course provides vital knowledge and an insight for early years settings to ensure action is taken at the first signs of child abuse. Our member early years settings are encouraged to work with parents and carers to get the best outcomes for the family. EduCare should compliment this relationship and secure further safety for the children in their care"
