Charlton FC's Matt Holland and the MP for Erith and Thamesmead John Austin will officially open the Pre-school Learning Alliance's Neighbourhood Nursery in Erith on Thursday 20th October at 1.30pm. West Street Neighbourhood Nursery (Bexley) is one of three Pre-school Learning Alliance nurseries in South East London. This brand new nursery meets the needs of local parents by providing flexible, affordable, high quality daycare that enables them to work or train according to need.

The nursery was built with funding from a number of agencies including the Big Lottery Fund, Woolwich and North Bexley Partnership, North Bexley Sure Start and Bexley Council. West Street (Bexley) nursery is part of a Sure Start Children's Centre, catering for children under five years. The nursery offers young children the chance to learn through play in a stimulating and nurturing environment. It also provides a facility for parents to get to know other people and to drop in for advice and social opportunities.

Matt Holland from Charlton FC will cut the ribbon and John Austin MP will cut a cake to officially open the nursery. Special guests will include the Mayor of Bexley, Cllr John Shepherd, local Councillors, Primary School Headteachers, health visitors and parents, staff and children.

John Austin, MP for Erith and Thamesmead said:

"I am looking forward to officially marking the opening of West Street Neighbourhood Nursery. Parents and children need good quality, flexible, affordable childcare, combined with adult learning and social opportunities. This nursery will be of great benefit to the community."

The 70 place nursery offers full daycare five days a week and provides a home from home for children between six weeks old and school age.

Lynn Attoe, Nursery Centre Manager commented:

"We are delighted to officially mark the opening of our new facility. We have worked hard to get where we are today. Our nursery will provide parents and carers with much needed learning and childcare facilities which are local to them and accessible. We are especially pleased to welcome our local football club and MP to mark this special day."

The Pre-school Learning Alliance is establishing a network of over 30 Neighbourhood Nurseries nationwide. Its involvement in the Neighbourhood Nursery Initiative ensures that children and families have early years provision where it is needed most.

Chris Moneypenny, Regional Executive Officer at London Region Pre-school Learning Alliance commented:

"West Street Bexley Neighbourhood Nursery is a real success story. So much work has been done, in partnership with the local Sure Start and other stakeholders to make this facility a reality. The nursery provides children with a safe and stimulating environment, where parents and carers can be sure that their child will be well looked after and cared for. It is a real asset for the community."
