Teddy Bears picnic and Toddlerthon day at Newstead Children's Centre

WHEN: Friday 17th June 2005 from 11.30am until 1.30pm
WHERE: Newstead Children's Centre, Tilford Road, Newstead Village, Nottinghamshire
WHAT: Teddy Bears Picnics and Toddles

Newstead Neighbourhood Nursery and Children's Centre in Newstead Village will be hosting a fun event for parents with children at the nursery as part of the Pre-school Learning Alliance's Playweek, themed as: "Teddy Bear Toddles".

The nursery opened six months ago and provides full day care for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. Working in partnership with the Sure Start, Newstead Neighbourhood Nursery and Children's Centre is hoping to invite parents along to their teddy bear picnic, to be held in the nursery garden.

Children, parents and staff will all bring their teddy bears along, the children will make and wear teddy bear masks. There will also be opportunities for a teddy hunt and to sing teddy songs. Newstead Children's Centre is one of 25 Pre-school Learning Alliance Neighbourhood Nurseries open around England.

Ann Edwards, Nursery Manager said:

"We have been open for just 6 months and are looking forward to hosing our teddy bears picnic and toddlerthon as part of Pre-school Playweek. We thought we would celebrate playweek here at the Children's Centre with a teddy bears picnic. This will be a fantastic opportunity for parents of children who attend the nursery to get involved and see first-hand the kind of activities we provide for their children."

There are still some spaces left at the 30 place nursery, parents wishing to enquire about the nursery should call Ann on 01623 753828.

Notes for Editors:

  1. Newstead Neighbourhood Nursery and Children's Centre is based in Tilford Road, Newstead Village, Notts NG15 0BS. Further information about the nomination is available by calling Ann on 01623 753828.
  2. Between Saturday 18 and 25 of June, the Pre-school Learning Alliance will be encouraging all its members to celebrate Playweek as part of National Sure Start Month. Building on the achievements of the many successful Teddy Bear's Picnics held in previous years, Alliance members and nurseries are being invited to go one better in 2005 by running a Teddy Bear Toddle which not only has the advantage of getting those tubby teddies into shape — highlighting all those health living messages — but can be run as a sponsored event.
  3. The Pre-school Learning Alliance is currently establishing a network of over 30 Neighbourhood Nurseries nationwide. The nurseries will be built to a unique design, designed from the inside out to suit the needs of the children and parents who will use them. The traditional emphasis on the exterior architecture has been replaced with a design based around creating an interior that places children's and parents' needs first.
  4. The Pre-school Learning Alliance represents and supports 15,000 community pre-schools in England. Registered as an educational charity, the Alliance is the national dimension of the pre-school movement.
