Alliance comments on the Daycare Trust childcare costs survey
Leading early years charity the Pre-school Learning Alliance today commented on the Childcare Costs Survey produced by the Daycare Trust. The survey found that childcare costs continue to rise above inflation and calls for further investment in the childcare sector.
Steve Alexander, Chief Executive of the Pre-school Learning Alliance said
‘The Daycare Trust survey serves to illustrate what we have long known, that parents are struggling to meet the burden of childcare costs. Government initiatives and the tax credit system are not going far enough to provide parents with the means to choose high quality, affordable childcare. This is especially a problem for families on low incomes and parents looking to re-train. If we are serious about creating a childcare service to rival those found in Europe, then levels of investment in the supply of childcare need to be increased significantly.’
