Alliance welcomes Charity Commission advice on extended schools

Leading early years charity the Pre-school Learning Alliance today welcomed the advice issued by the Charity Commission specifically for schools and voluntary pre-schools that want to work together as part of the Government’s extended schools initiative.

The guidance which sets out the framework for schools and voluntary pre-schools to work together, provides a steer for pre-schools which are looking to get involved and work in partnership with an extended school. It opens up opportunities for pre-schools to use their assets to play a part in the Government’s extended schools initiative, whilst retaining their own identities.

The Charity Commission advice complements the Helping Schools, Helping Pre-schools pack already published by the Alliance and distributed to schools and local authorities throughout Britain. Pre-school Learning Alliance Chief Executive Steve Alexander said:

‘We are delighted that this guidance helps to clarify ways for charitable pre-schools to realise their full potential through working in partnership with the extended schools programme. Working with a community pre-school can help schools to enrich the existing dialogue that they have with their users, as well as helping them to access vital sources of charitable funding, whilst schools can help provide an important means of sustainability for pre-school services in the new childcare landscape’
