Local MP celebrates opening of New Neighbourhood Nursery in Runcorn

Local MP Derek Twigg will officially open the Pre-school Learning Alliance’s Neighbourhood Nursery in Runcorn on Friday 10th March 2005 at 11.00am.

Ladybirds Neighbourhood Nursery is the second Pre-school Learning Alliance nursery to open in Runcorn. This brand new nursery meets the needs of local parents by providing flexible, affordable, high quality daycare that enables them to work or train according to need.

The nursery was refurbished with funding from a number of agencies including the Big Lottery Fund, local Surestart and Halton Borough Council. Project management and co-ordination of the refurbishment projected was managed by the Children’s Charity NCH. Ladybirds Neighbourhood Nursery is part of a Sure Start Children’s Centre, catering for children under-five years.

The nursery offers young children the chance to learn through play in a stimulating and nurturing environment. It also provides a facility for parents to get to know other people and to drop in for advice and social opportunities.

Derek Twigg MP will cut a celebration cake to mark the opening. Special guests will include representatives from the Pre-school Learning Alliance, parents, staff and children.

Derek Twigg, MP for Halton said:

“I am looking forward to officially marking the opening of Ladybirds Neighbourhood Nursery. Parents and children need good quality, flexible, affordable childcare, combined with adult learning and social opportunities. This nursery will be of great benefit to the community.”

The 54 place nursery offers full daycare five days a week and provides a home from home for children between six weeks old and school age.

Carol Fenlon, Nursery Centre Manager commented:

“We are delighted to officially mark the opening of our new facility. We have worked hard to get where we are today. Our nursery will provide parents and carers with much needed learning and childcare facilities which are local to them and accessible. We are especially pleased to welcome our local MP to mark this special day.”

The Pre-school Learning Alliance has opened 28 Neighbourhood Nurseries nationwide. Its involvement in the Neighbourhood Nursery Initiative ensures that children and families have early years provision where it is needed most.

Pat Styles, Regional Executive Officer at the North West Pre-school Learning Alliance commented:

“Ladybirds Neighbourhood Nursery is a real success story. So much work has been done, in partnership with the local Sure Start and other stakeholders within the community. The nursery provides children with a safe and stimulating environment, where parents and carers can be sure that their child will be well looked after and cared for. It is a real asset for the community. “I would especially like to thank Halton Brough Council as well as parents and members of the community for all their support and assistance in making Ladybirds Neighbourhood Nursery such a success.”
