Pre-school Learning Alliance joins European partners to research successful models for challenging educational inequality

The Pre-school Learning Alliance is linking up with the National Institute for Pedagogical Research, France, and 12 other European research partners to identify successful social and educational policies for eliminating educational inequality among children.

Funded by the European Commission, the project which is entitled EUROPEP: Comparing Priority Educational Policies in Europe – Evaluating the conditions for success will have specific focus on the effectiveness of current policies in meeting the needs of disadvantaged children.

Evidence gathered by the team, from Belgium, Greece, France, Portugal, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Romania, will help frame a number of educational policy recommendations for each partner country and the development of cross national (European) benchmarks.

The findings from the two year project will be disseminated through seminars and published in print and online.

Steve Alexander, Chief Executive of the Pre-school Learning Alliance said:

“The Alliance is delighted to be involved with this important piece of research. Through our early years provision and our involvement with the Neighbourhood Nurseries Initiative and Sure Start, the Alliance has a wealth of expertise in delivering services to disadvantaged children and families. We welcome this opportunity to share our knowledge with European partners, and learn about other successful models. We will then be looking at ways of incorporating findings into our policies and practice, and shaping national policy to help enhance children’s life chances and break the generational nature of social exclusion.”
