New publication Embracing Equality helps early years workers to create genuinely inclusive settings

The Pre-school Learning Alliance’s new publication Embracing Equality examines the key role of early years practitioners in creating positive models of inclusion which enable very young children to develop in an environment free from prejudice and discrimination.

Described by Trevor Phillips, Chair of the Commission for Equalities and Human Rights, in his foreword as ‘essential reading for all practitioners working in early years settings, at all levels and across different sectors’, Embracing Equality addresses the fact that children learn prejudiced attitudes and discriminatory behaviour from those around them at a very early age, well before they get to school.

Exploring a wide range of topics, Embracing Equality enables practitioners to improve their own practice in the broader context of anti-discrimination legislation. Thought-provoking case studies and exercises feature throughout, helping early years settings to develop a fully inclusive culture.

Also featuring contributions from Jane Lane, respected advocate for racial equality, Embracing Equality will help settings create an environment where children, staff and volunteers feel secure, happy and valued and where all family members are welcomed and encouraged to get involved in their child’s learning and development. It will prove an invaluable supplement to the training, qualification and experience of practitioners working with children aged 0-5 years.
