New publication ‘The Social Child’ helps early years practitioners to support and understand children’s social, emotional and behavioural development
With children now attending childcare from an earlier age, more reported instances of children with speech, language and other learning difficulties and with increasing numbers of multi-cultural settings, the need for early years practitioners to be able to understand and appropriately facilitate children‘s development is more important than ever.
In response to the changes which have occurred in childcare over the past 10 years, the Pre-school Learning Alliance’s new publication ‘The Social Child’ examines how children’s behaviour relates to their development and their experience of attending an early years setting.
‘The Social Child’ brings together in one accessible resource, observations and developed ideas of good practice emerging from early years training for practitioners. It will prove an invaluable supplement to the training, qualification and experience of practitioners working with children aged 0-5 years.
The wide range of topics explored in ‘The Social Child’, include: the theories of child development; social and emotional development; factors which impact on a child’s behaviour; supporting disabled children and children with Special Educational Needs, and policies for good working relationships with parents and caregivers.
