NEWS RELEASE

Children and families join in the fun of the Pre-school Learning Alliance’s Playweek
From 25th to the 30th June 2007 pre-schools, playgroups, parent and toddler groups and nurseries throughout England will be holding fun family events as part of Playweek, the annual week of activities held by Pre-school Learning Alliance members to highlight the fundamental importance of play for children’s learning and development.
During Playweek, tens of thousands of children will be taking part in events and activities - such as teddy bears picnics and themed family fun days — which enable them to have fun and learn about the world around them.
Playweek events also celebrate and recognise the role of early years settings as a vital community resource for parents and families. As well as putting parents in touch with other parents and other community groups, early years settings are a source of information, advice and practical support for parents. They can also play a key role helping parents pursue training or career options, not only by providing childcare, but also by the volunteering opportunities they offer.
Steve Alexander, Chief Executive of the Alliance, the largest voluntary provider of childcare said,
“The Alliance believes that children learn best through playing and we have championed this ethos for over 40 years. Children love to play and they need to play to learn. At Playweek events all the family can enjoy imaginative, creative and fun activities which don’t need to be complex or expensive but which will bring life-long benefits.”
