New resources from the Pre-school Learning Alliance help childcare practitioners implement the Early Years Foundation Stage
The Pre-school Learning Alliance has published two new resources, Understanding the EYFS guide and Baby and Toddler Cards for the EYFS, aimed at supporting practitioners implementing the new Early Years Foundation Stage.
Understanding the EYFS is relevant to both practitioners and parents, and has been developed by the Alliance to give people working in early years settings an understanding of the changes that are due to take place with Ofsted registration and inspections. It will also be a useful guide that practitioners will be able to share with parents to help them understand the new framework.
Whilst baby and toddler groups are not required to follow the EYFS, its key themes and commitments provide an ideal route into developing best practice. In response, the Alliance has produced the Baby and Toddler Cards for the EYFS, a vibrant and colourful set of five A4 cards that are the perfect way of linking the work that takes place in baby and toddler groups with the play-based curriculum. Each card links to one of the key commitments of the Early Years Foundation Stage and highlights how baby and toddler groups support children at the start of their EYFS journey.
Bridget Allison, Publications Officer for the Pre-school Learning Alliance said:
‘Our latest publications are particularly timely given the EYFS will be implemented from September 2008. Understanding the EYFS and the Baby and Toddler Cards have been designed specifically to help practitioners to help parents. At present, many parents aren't fully aware of the EYFS and what it means for baby and toddler groups. These colourful and engaging resources provide a much better understanding of the play-based curriculum'
Both the Understanding the EYFS guide and the Baby and Toddler Cards for the EYFS are available through the newly published 2008 Publications and Resources catalogue from the Pre-school Learning Alliance.
