NEWS RELEASE

Adult Learning Inspectorate acknowledges good teaching and learning

The Pre-school Learning Alliance today welcomed the publication of the Adult Learning Inspectorate's report on the quality of its vocational training and adult and community learning.

The final report follows a rigorous inspection of the Alliance's adult learning provision, conducted in December 2003. The results, published today, are very encouraging. The report found that the quality of provision meets the needs of learners and that standards of teaching and learning are good.

Commenting on the report, Pauline Henniker, Director of Family Learning Programmes said:

"I very much welcome the publication of this report as it recognises the high standards of teaching and learning. The Alliance has always prided itself on providing learning opportunities that are relevant to the needs of local communities and this report acknowledges that a wide range of our provision does just that"

"We also welcome the recommendations for improvement and the key challenges facing the Alliance. Everyone involved with the delivery of adult and family learning at the charity is committed to ensuring the quality of our provision continues to improve".

Judith Thompson, Chair of the Pre-school Learning Alliance said:

"This report is an important milestone in the Alliance's development as a key provider of education and training opportunities for adults in the childcare sector and for families and parents. I am particularly pleased that the report recognises strong leadership and strategic management, our effective partnership working and our positive action to widen participation in education. This gives us an excellent starting point for responding to the challenges of workforce reform, outlined in the Green Paper — Every Child Matters".
