Sir Teddy Taylor MP will officially open the Pre-school Learning Alliance's Neighbourhood Nursery in Southend-on-Sea, Essex on Friday 9th July 2004.
Cockleshell Neighbourhood Nursery, is the first Pre-school Learning Alliance nursery in Southend. The nursery meets the needs of local parents in providing flexible, affordable, high quality daycare that enables them to work or train according to need. The nursery offers young children the chance to learn through play in a stimulating and nurturing environment. It also provides a facility for parents to get to know other people and to drop in for advice and social opportunities.
The nursery is situated in the grounds of Southend Adult Community College, Southend-on-Sea, which is in one of the 30 per cent most deprived wards in England. It is an area of severe economic and social need. The new neighbourhood nursery will provide a safe, and friendly place for parents to meet with their children.
Sir Teddy Taylor MP, said:
"I think that it's no secret that I am a great supporter and admirer of the excellent Southend Adult Community College and it has helped the College and its students to have the Cockleshell Nursery operating at the College for a few years.
However, as with the College, the Nursery is extending its activities and the new facilities are in a superb new building at the back of the College. The new Cockleshell Nursery will provide a wide range of opportunities for youngsters in the area. Its a splendid step forward and I would wish the new nursery every success."
The nursery offers full daycare five days a week. The setting provides a home from home for children between six weeks old and school age and the children have somewhere to play, learn and succeed.
Jane Youdale, County Manager of the Essex, Southend and Thurrock Pre-school Learning Alliance said:
"A tremendous amount of work has been done in partnership with the Adult Community College, Southend Sure Start and the Pre-school Learning Alliance to get to this point today. We hope that Cockleshell Neighbourhood Nursery will become the hub of learning for both children and adults. Through our Neighbourhood Nurseries, the Pre-school Learning Alliance wants to help young children reach their full potenial by offering flexible, affordable, high quality nursery education and childcare."
Sharon Ambrose, Nursery Manager commented:
"We are delighted to be opening this wonderful provision in partnership with Southend Adult Community college to accommodate local community, aid teacher recruitment and encourage Parents to undertake training. This is the first purpose built nursery in Southend and we aim to work closely with Parents to provide quality care for all children"
"The Pre-school Learning Alliance is establishing a network of over 30 Neighbourhood Nurseries nationwide. Our involvement in the Neighbourhood Nursery Initiative ensures that children and families have early years provision where it is needed most."
