Commenting on the Chancellor’s Comprehensive Spending Review, Judith Thompson, Chair of the Pre-school Learning Alliance said

"We welcome the additional spending in the early years, a crucial stage in the education and development of all children.

It is crucial that, in piloting childcare places for two-year olds, the Government ensures flexibility for parents, to ensure that they can choose how they wish to use their free allocation and the type of setting that best suits the needs of their child. It is vital that any expansion of additional places builds on existing provision, with the voluntary sector playing a full and active role".
