Nick Harvey MP will officially open the Pre-school Learning Alliance's Neighbourhood Nursery in Ilfracombe, Devon on 10th September 2004. The open day will be attended by the Mayor of Illfracombe, Paul Crabbe, local Councillors, parents and children.
The Oak Tree Neighbourhood Nursery is the first Pre-school Learning Alliance nursery to open in Ilfracombe. The nursery is designed to meet the needs of local parents in providing flexible, affordable, high quality daycare. The Oak Tree offers young children the chance to learn through play in a stimulating and nurturing environment. It also provides a facility for parents to get to know other people and to drop in for advice and social opportunities. The nursery is situated in Malborough Road, which is in one of the most disadvantaged wards in England.
Nick Harvey MP, Liberal Democrat MP for North Devon, said:
"I am very pleased to be invited to open the Oak Tree Neighbourhood Nursery. It's certainly good news for Ilfracombe and will be part of a much wider range of services for families in the area, which I am sure will make a huge difference in the community."
The Oak Tree offers 35 full daycare places five days a week and provides a home from home for children between six weeks old and school age.
Cheryl Baddeley, Nursery Centre Manager said:
"We are delighted to finally open The Oak Tree Neighbourhood Nursery in our brilliant new building. The nursery is very light and airy with a lovely garden, providing a fantastic facility for the community. The children are looking forward to growing fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers; this will add a new dimension to our Curriculum."
"The new Sure Start building will be finished by the end of this year and we are looking forward to working in partnership with them to provide a wide variety of services to the families of Ilfracombe."
"We would like to thank Zero14Plus, Devon's Early Years and Childcare Partnership, David Vickery, Architect; Phil Byers, Project Manager RGB Architects; Gates Quantity Surveyors and Bluestone Building Contractors, for all their hard work in making this a nursery building to be proud of."
Lin Ashby, Regional Executive Officer and Team Leader, South West Region commented:
"It is such a priviledge to be associated with The Oak Tree Neighbourhood Nursery. Families in Illfracombe will have the opportunity to use a first class facility, where parents and children are welcomed into a friendly, safe and caring environment. Supported by the Pre-school Learning Alliance, the nursery can offer flexible childcare with an emphasis on play and learning, a real asset to the community."
