Pre-school Learning Alliance publishes new and revised Business Management guides for early years settings

The Pre-school Learning Alliance has bolstered its catalogue of Business and Management publications with two guides to assist early years providers in the effective running and development of their settings

Both guides are packed with advice and information for providers of all sizes and in voluntary, private or maintained sectors.

Paul Donaldson, Alliance Director of Human Resources said:

“Employment legislation changes on a regular basis, and it is important that employers, whether owners, managers or committee members, fulfil their legal responsibilities. We put Employment in early years settings together to help settings to identify these responsibilities and follow good practice.

Employment in early years settings is full of information and practical advice, including template forms that can be copied and adapted. Settings which have been running on an informal basis may find the idea of drawing up job descriptions, person specifications and appointing interview panels daunting, but this guide deals with every step of the process in an accessible way. ”

Effective marketing and publicity for early years settings is packed with practical examples on key areas including partnership-building with local government and new strategies to reach potential users and funders.

Kathleen Quirke, Alliance Marketing Manager and co-author of Effective marketing and publicity for early years settings said:

“With sustainability the key issue facing childcare providers and with the funding landscape rapidly changing, it has never been more important for settings to market and position themselves favourably.

Effective marketing and publicity helps settings to identify their strengths and understand the factors that influence parents when choosing childcare. It highlights the importance of identifying and promoting the settings key selling points and benefits. The guide helps settings to position themselves favourably so they are well placed to attract and compete for funding or commissions from local authorities. ”
