Parent Support scheme
- Are you a parent of a child under 5?
- Are you going through a period of stress of difficulty?
- Would you appreciate some extra support or someone to talk to?
This is a informal befriending service from the Pre-school Learning Alliance, which offers some additional 1:1 support to parents of young children who are going through a stressful time in their lives, or who are experiencing isolation or difficulty.
The scheme enables support to be offered to a family when the problem or difficulty is identified, without several tiers of bureaucracy and intermiable waiting lists. The Parent Support Scheme works to reduce parental stress, to give support to the family, to reduce parental isolation, to enable parents to support and enjoy their child and develop a network of friendship and support within their own local community.
Workers can offer some or all of the following:
- Someone to talk to — a listening ear.
- Support in playing with your child and in understanding how they develop and behave.
- Support in attending hospital, clinic or other appointments.
- Support in accessing benefits.
- Respite — workers will take your child out or play with your child in the home so you have time to play with another child, do some housework or shopping, or just have a rest or time to yourself.
- Support in attending local facilities for under 5's for the first time such as toddler groups.
- Information on childcare, facilities in the local area and where to go to get further help or support.
